Dennis Howard was a cherished artist in Winnsboro and throughout the Upper East Side of Texas. His works have adorned countless homes, and his vibrant murals grace the walls of downtown Winnsboro and beyond. A contributing artist to the Wood County Walls project, Dennis gained significant recognition, and his mural work has been in high demand ever since.
Dennis’s artistic legacy is evident in the six murals he created around downtown Winnsboro. Among them are The Grasshopper on the west side of the Culture Club Art Gallery, a guitar mural on the south side of the WCA construction site, The Green Door, The Blue Guitar, and a mural in the pedestrian walkway on the south side of Z’s Restaurant. He also collaborated with Jaci Mouser on the stunning butterfly mural at Sinclair Market.
In addition to these works, Dennis collaborated with me on a mural at Beauweevils Antique Store on Main Street. One of the most beloved pieces he created is the vibrant floral mural painted on the carriage house at Oaklea Mansion, a testament to his creativity and flair.
Dennis’s talent extended beyond murals. He frequently exhibited at art festivals and galleries, leaving a lasting impression on all who encountered his work. Friends, family, and fellow artists admired his dedication and passion and remembered him as someone who truly embodied the spirit of an artist.
The Winnsboro Center for the Arts will honor Dennis Howard with a special tribute at 1 p.m. on Sunday, January 19, 2025. The event will follow a celebration of life at Taco Dive, located across the Bowery from the art center. Taco Dive, one of Dennis’s favorite hangouts when he wasn’t painting, will also host a display of his art
.
Dennis Howard’s vibrant work and unwavering passion have left an indelible mark on the community. His legacy will continue to inspire artists and art lovers alike for years to come.
